King and Coll Claim 2016 North Island Championships

Joelle King and Paul Coll have claimed the 2016 North Island Senior Championships with some strong wins over their opponents Megan Craig and Lance Beddoes.

In the Women's Open final top seed Joelle King played third seed Megan Craig who had upset the second seed Nele Gillis the previous day. The first game saw Joelle take dominating control of the centre of the court working Craig and whilst Craig was able to work hard to retrieve some great balls it was not enough and King claimed the first game. It was much of the same in the second game where Craig retrieved a lot of the balls and King continued to dominate the centre with King claiming the second game in a similar fashion. Craig worked hard in the third and pushed King at points but unfortunately this was not enough and King claimed the match and her sixth North Island Championships title.

In the Men's Open old rivals Paul Coll and Lance Beddoes would do battle for the 2016 North Island Championship title. Coll showed his great strength in the first game and whilst Beddoes was able to match some great rallies Coll was able finish the rallies and he claimed the first game. Coll continued in dominatingly strong fashion in the second game and he stormed out to a great lead with Beddoes just not being able to match his intensity and Coll sealed out the second game. The third saw both players battle hard and with some intense rallies and even a blood break with Beddoes getting a blood nose the third game had it all. However Beddoes wasn't able to match it with Coll going down in 3.
